Add a ‘Scroll to Top’ Button on Your Website to Improve Navigation

Sathyajith Vijayakumar Sathyajith Vijayakumar 2 Min Read

There are some Widgets in VWO that help present content creatively in an engaging manner. There are others that add more functions to help your visitors navigate and move about in your website conveniently in a frictionless manner. One such is our latest ‘Scroll to Top‘ button.

Scroll to Top button in action

What is it?

A Scroll to Top button gives your website visitors a quick and easy way to get back to the top of the page with a single click. Once inserted, the sticky button shows up on the right-bottom corner of the page whenever your visitor begins to scroll downwards on the page. It works seamlessly for desktop, tablet, and mobile versions of the page. The below screen capture shows how it works.

Why is it needed?

Some pages on the site tend to be long- blog posts or search results in shopping or travel websites are just a couple of examples. If a visitor scrolls deep in these pages, there is a chance they may feel stuck and will have to scroll up manually all the way. Even worse, they may exit the website completely. Adding a button that takes them to the top gives them an easy way to continue browsing.

Using the Visual Editor, you should have your widget inserted in a matter of clicks in a Testing or Rollouts campaign and have it up and running in a few minutes. VWO offers different arrow styles and colors to match the look of your website best.

Pro tip: Trying to figure out how to paginate search results on your website? You can A/B test pagination against another variation showing all results in a single page, with results made to load as the visitor scrolls further down. The Scroll to Top widget can be useful here and add to this variation’s performance. Maybe you discover through the A/B test that you do not need pagination after all!
