What are best practices for usability testing?

What To Test has an inbuilt set of template questions that act as a good starting point for the kind of questions you can ask to get effective feedback on your website. We have categorized these questions into two, Open-ended question and choice based questions:

Open-ended questions:

  • Who do you think will benefit most from this website and why?
  • Which part of website caught your attention first, and why?
  • List 3 things that you dislike about this website.
  • If you could change one thing on the site, what would be that?
  • Please write your initial impressions about the layout of this page and how would you improve the colors, graphics, photos, text etc.
  • If you had to give the website a rating, from 1 to 10, where 1 was worst and 10 was best, what rating would you give it, and why?
  • Is there any additional information that you would like to see added to this website?
  • Pick at least one confusing thing about the website that you do not understand. Also mention how you think this can be fixed.
  • Does the website tagline make sense to you? Can you find what does this company do from its tagline? Please explain.
  • What aspects of the website design do you think can improve?
  • Who do you think will benefit most from this website and why?
  • What do you think this website is about?
  • List 3 things that you dislike about this website.
