Latest from our world of experimentation
Experience optimization, personalization, and more
We genuinely believe that businesses exist to fulfill human desires. Do you often find asking yourself or your team what human desire is your business fulfilling and how can you fulfill them better, and make that experience enchanting?
One core value that our product team lives by is that every technology or feature upgrade on the VWO platform results in human-centric implications. This month’s newsletter unravels how our experimentation platform impacts visitor experiences with better performing campaigns, easy creation of optimized experiments, and heart-warming personalization that adds a touch of human centricity to your digital properties.
VWO powers lagless experiences with negligible impact on loading time
VWO SmartCode is our proprietary code that enables tracking and experimentation on your website. However, any third-party code added to your website can delay the critical rendering path (a set of actions that helps browsers load and run your website) and impact its load speed. VWO is rated to have the lowest-in-industry impact on Total Blocking Time by Github. With its newest update, we have further optimized our SmartCode to be 36% faster. With the lowest Total Blocking Time in the industry. Ever.
Test your SEO ideas before launching them at scale. Here’s why (and how).
Google incentivizes engaging websites that fulfill user intent with a higher ranking on SERPs (Search Engine Result Pages). With Google’s ever-evolving algorithm, continuous testing and optimization is key to maintaining or bettering your ranking. The good news is that A/B testing with VWO doesn’t negatively impact your SEO. Moreover, Google encourages you to test your SEO ideas before launching them at scale. This blog will acquaint you with the basics of running experiments on your website to test your SEO ideas. Just so you constantly deliver engaging experiences that Google acknowledges and ranks you better.
Easily create optimized experiences with our up-to-date Visual Editor
VWO’s Visual Editor not only lets non-technical teams tweak websites to create and launch experiments but also lets them preview exactly how it’ll appear to the visitors. With our most recent updates, the Visual Editor makes it easier (and possible) to do so for dynamic websites. Here are a few recent feature enhancements that power your experiments like no other experimentation platform.
Tweak elements enclosed in Shadow DOMs
A Shadow DOM is like a container in which a set of elements on your website can be enclosed. Lately, developers have been using it avidly to create reusable custom elements like widgets. However, elements enclosed in Shadow DOMs can’t be manipulated by external website editors, making them a nightmare for web experimentation. Not anymore. VWO Visual Editor is one of the first in the industry that allows you to modify elements in Shadow DOMs and even track specific elements contained in them for A/B, Multivariate, and Split tests.
Deliver friction-free visitor experiences while experimenting with dynamic elements
The VWO Visual Editor uses selector paths to uniquely identify the elements you made changes on, and show them to your visitors. And to do so, the Visual Editor creates said paths for elements using their IDs or Class (attributes that are generated while building the site) or even relative paths. For dynamic sites, the values of these attributes change every time the site is updated, keeping your visitors from seeing the tweaked elements in test variations. Our updated Selector Path Settings solves this quibble with a range of selector path configurations that make your life easy.
Access the DOM Tree to easily find and edit hidden or inaccessible elements
Modifying elements on the Visual Editor has always been quick and easy. But what if the element you wish to tweak is superimposed with another element in the foreground? You may not be able to easily access and edit it. So this new update lets you navigate through the entire DOM tree. Here you can find the entire lineage (ancestors, parents, children, and siblings) of the element you’re looking to edit in a few clicks.
Preview your visitor’s experience on the device they use
Our new responsive website editor enables device-specific testing for responsive and adaptive websites to power your multi-device experimentation program. You can use it to run experiments on specific devices, deploy widgets or personalized banners optimized for particular devices, or test mobile sites before going live with them. To achieve these use cases, our responsive editor allows you to preview how your campaign will render on different device resolutions, and help you create device-based cohorts to launch highly targetted tests.

Success story: A Swedish lifestyle brand tested personalized banners for more clicks on Add to Cart
Ideal of Sweden is a lifestyle brand for cellphone accessories. They used VWO to run a series of A/B tests on personalized (hidden) sticky banners. They hypothesized that the following messaging on those banners, targeted to particular audiences, can achieve higher clicks on Add to Cart buttons:
A. Sale countdown clock targeted to VIP users
B. Instagram follower count to visitors from social media
Result:
5.6%
higher ‘Add to Carts’ for test A
1.46%
higher conversion rate for test B
VWO’s custom segmentation capability allowed them to further target test B to visitors from climate compensated countries.
