Integrating VWO with your Magento webstore is a simple, step-by-step procedure that does not require you to tweak the template source code.

After you successfully complete the integration, you can create and run any VWO campaign on your Magento store.

To integrate VWO with Magento, you first install the VWO extension and then configure it per your requirements.

Installing the VWO extension

Follow these steps to install the VWO extension on Magento:

  1. Open the Magento website and search for the VWO extension, using the search bar.
  2. Click Install Now to get the key for activating the integration. You must be signed in to Magento to view the key.
  3. To copy the extension key on your clipboard, click Select Key.
  4. Using admin credentials, sign in to the Magento dashboard.
  5. In the menu on the top, select System. Next, select Magento Connect, and then select Magento Connect Manager.
  6. On the Magento Connect Manager page, in the Paste extension key to install text box, paste the extension key you copied earlier.

This concludes installing the VWO code. You can now make the following configurational changes per your requirements:

  • Configure Revenue Tracking
  • Configure Advanced Targeting

Configuring Revenue Tracking

  1. On the Magento dashboard, select System from the menu on the top and click Configuration. The Configuration page appears.
  2. Under General, in the Account ID field, enter your Account ID.
  3. Under Revenue Tracking, in the Enable drop-down list, select Yes. Next, in the Revenue Value Type list, select the revenue type you want to track.

You can run the VWO campaign on your Magento store now. With the Revenue Tracking option available, VWO starts tracking the revenue on the webpages of your store.

Configuring Advanced Targeting

VWO also provides you the Advanced Targeting feature. This feature allows you to select any product attribute that you want to use for targeting product pages. The selected attributes are then available on the page as JavaScript variables.

Typical examples of product attributes include price, color, product type, and other attributes.

In the Include product attribute drop-down list, select the attribute you want to target.

By default, the integration passes “Type,” “SKU,” “Name,” and “Price.” In addition, you can select up to 10 attributes to be passed through this integration.

Why should you go for Advanced Targeting?

Using Advanced Targeting via product attributes, you can personalize the user experience on the product pages, as it helps you to create a custom targeting campaign within VWO.

How to use Advanced Targeting in VWO?

Let’s take a look at a sample javascript variable created by this integration:

var _vwo_custom_magento = {
  "page_type" : "product",
  "product_price" : 123
  "color" : "Red"

 If you want to create a campaign to target all product pages with the color Red, then create a Personalization campaign in VWO with the targeting option of Javascript Variable and use the variable in the following manner:

Copy the code for the Javascript Variable option from here:
_vwo_custom_magento && _vwo_custom_magento.color
