Now schedule tests for a future date and automatically pause after testing a specific number of visitors

We’ve just rolled out a brand new feature for all our customers. You can now set up tests to start or stop automatically on a date and time, either once or in a recurring manner, and pause after a predefined number of visitors have been tested.

This functionality is available in the second last step of test creation process (where you define test settings), and this can also be enabled later by clicking on the “View / Edit Test Details” tab on your test reports and enabling “Test running schedule”.

To give you peace of mind while setting up your tests to run in the future, we’ve ensured that “Pause test after X visitors” always gets precedence. That ways, you can schedule as many tests as you like, set the maximum number of visitors you want them to be tracking and then simply sit back. You don’t have to worry about overshooting or exhausting your account quota. Also, as soon as any test starts, stops or is paused, you’ll get a nice email informing you about it so you stay in the loop.

For the smart marketer, this is essentially a behavioral targeting feature that will allow them to precisely control their tests and campaigns. Two interesting ways of using this feature would be:

  • You are a B2B website whose visitors surf primarily from office, so you enable tests to work only from 9am to 5pm on weekdays. This means the reliability of your data is much greater compared to when the test is running 24 hours a day.
  • You notice a certain pattern on specific days of the week. For example, every morning between 7am to 8:30am, a large number  of 18 to 24 year old males click on your Facebook ads and visit the campaign landing page. You could set up your test to run in this time slot on weekdays and for the full 24 hours on weekends. Also, you don’t want to worry about your visitor quota getting used up on this one test, so you configure it to automatically pause after 25,000 visitors.

  1. This is a game changer in my opinion. I can see using this feature to run variations that work well during certain times, etc. I constantly see variations that convert very well during certain days and times and not so much otherwise. I think setting up scheduled tests to match advertising schedules would be an interesting test to run. Looking forward to trying this out later today!
